Buongiorno Inkers e buon martedì, come state? Io scrivo questo post un po' troppo assonnata per i miei gusti, ma in pausa non ho proprio avuto tempo, quindi devo ripiegare sul post cena.
Avete letto il post di sabato sulle serie inedite in cui vi parlavo della trilogia "The Bargainer"? No? Va bene, potete trovarlo qui. Oggi, comunque, riprendo quell'articolo perché vi porto la recensione del volume conclusivo della serie, ovvero "Dark Harmony" di Laura Thalassa.

Scrivere la recensione dell'ultimo volume di una serie è sempre dura perché essere esaustivi senza fare spoiler richiede non poca abilità, ma farò del mio meglio.

“He’s the dark side of the moon. He’s my beautiful, terrible mystery. My friend. My soulmate.”

"Dark Harmony" parte già con un sapore diverso dai libri precedenti, certo, la storia d'amore è sempre e comunque dominante - ma ehi, è un paranormal romance, non un normale fantasy - ma la trama finalmente si articola sulla risoluzione del problema che ha vissuto all'ombra dei due libri precedenti.
Ho adorato la ricerca e il mistero dietro al "Ladro di Anime" e anche se alcune cose mi viene da etichettarle come ovvie, l'autrice è riuscita a tenermi incollata senza mai farmi annoiare.
E poi, diciamocelo, arrivata al 75% ero così O.O. Cioè, quel plot twist non me lo aspettavo proprio. Cioè, dai, Callie e poi Des, insomma, non si fa così!
Ma chi prendo in giro, certo che si fa così. Brava Laura!

“So, that’s how it feels to be glamoured by a siren,” he says, the corner of his mouth curving up just the slightest, “like I’ve been caught by my balls.” He comes in close, his smirk growing. “The whole thing was horribly invasive. I rather enjoyed it.”

Se il primo libro era quasi completamente dedicato alla parte romance (qui la recensione) e il secondo a quella politica (qui la recensione), "Dark Harmony" è il volume dedicato all'azione (anche se tutto lo scontro finale mi ha lasciata un po' confusa).

“People like us are not victims, he’d once told me. We’re someone’s nightmare.”

Forse, rispetto ai libri precedenti c'è un po' più di introspezione del personaggio di Callie, ma d'altra parte è inevitabile vista la sua nuova natura. Come protagonista ha subito un cambiamento esponenziale dal primo libro e la conclusione è più che degna.
In questo volume Callie diventa davvero padrona della sua natura di sirena e la abbraccia completamente. E la cosa più bella è quanto Des sia di supporto in questa sua transizione. Non la fa mai sentire meno che perfetta, meno che invincibile, e questa cosa si riflette sul loro rapporto di coppia che oltre a renderli stupendi è anche realistico, fatto sì di amore, ma anche di sostegno reciproco.

Con tutto che il suo nome continua a non piacermi (diciamocelo, nessuno chiamerebbe suo figlio Desmond), Des è davvero il re di questa storia. I suoi segreti hanno i segreti e vedere come la trama si snocciola tra le sue mani come se fosse un burattino tirato dai fili legati alle dita del Bargainer è pura magia. E poi il suo umorismo non manca mai di strappare un sorriso.

“And I will be there for them all. I will be there when the last of your mortal friends draws their last breath. I will be there through it all, and I will tease you and infuriate you, and lavish you with whatever it is your heart desires because the only thing mine desires is you.”

Anche i personaggi secondari si adorano e ammetto che non mi dispiacerebbe leggere un libro dedicato a Temper.
Ma più di tutto c'è da fare i complimenti all'autrice per il villain. Non me l'aspettavo proprio. Anche se... beh, una cosa che mi è rimasta sullo stomaco c'è e penso che lo chiederò all'autrice in occasione del Rare di Edimburgo.

Insomma, una bellissima trilogia che spero proprio arrivi in Italia perché le fan del paranormal romance se lo meritano!

“And you don’t need to.” The Bargainer stands. “But if you imagined staying behind so that you could have fun with Callie, then you’ll be sorely disappointed. The future Night Queen has official business that will take her away from the palace.”
It takes me a second to realize Des is referring to me.
“Wait,” I say, “I haven’t agreed to be queen.”
“Yeah,” Temper agrees, “my girl hasn’t agreed—what?” She turns on me. “Bitch, have you lost your mind? Take that crown and wear that shit like it’s your birthright.”
